Edit: Sorry, this is really exciting because it gives us the ability to study the brainstem and deep cerebellar nuclei in vivo, in naturalistic conditions. A few core assumptions I’m making with my current model is that all salience is generated in the brain stem, and that the cerebellum/deep cerebellar nuclei are inverse but equivalent in function to cerebral and limbic structures. This presents a way to actually derive the properties of these structures directly, which can be used to either validate the prediction or update the model.This represents a potentially massive step forward into sussing out the quanta of calculation in brains, and ultimately build up to a much more consistent model across ethological boundaries.
