Effects of hyper/hypo function in specific brain areas?

This is probably going to probably end up being explored under our “autism” map, but what do localized area of hyper and hypo function look like in brains? Could “schizophrenia” be a type of associative hyper or hypo function? Could sensory sensitivities be the product of brain stem hyper/hypo functionality? How do we assert an area of hyper/hypo functionality at all?
