Shouldn’t need to be said, but probably should anyway.

The intent of all this is not oppositional to anything, including and especially psychiatry. I realize that a lot of my comments are explicitly hostile regarding psychiatry, however my target isn’t psychiatry itself but psychiatric culture and philosophy (which may seem like the same thing).

An optimal outcome for all of this is that we have a much better model of how brains function, which in turn will allow us to build effective tools that reduce hardship and reduce the harmful effects of current philosophies. This includes giving psychiatrists (and everyone else) a model which allows them to accurately assess and treat these conditions rather than shooting blindly in the dark.

Ultimately, I’m aligned with the intent of most psychiatry even if I’m vehemently opposed to most of the practice. My hope is that having an accurate model will provide a bridge for psychiatry to cross over from it’s purely subjective phenomenology based approach into an approach based on how people actually work.

We’re trying to move beyond magic.
