This is great work. Literally watching the engrams being formed.
With respect to the model this study clearly illustrates a few things, 1) State is not created by homogeneous engrams. They are an accumulation of states. 2) Astrocytes encode engrams spine by spine, most likely as an artifact of signal strength. 3) Hebbian learning is an artifact of astrocytes encoding a group of neurons, then adding information to differing spines to create the program. As the program reaches desired output, the opposite of hebbian activity occurs.
