Just another dump in this cold information winter…
Genetic architecture of the white matter connectome of the human brain – “The Stack” Genetically distinct parallel projection populations from ventral hippocampus to prefrontal cortex – How does the feedback loop (or “awareness of awareness”) work? Cortical activity emerges in region-specific patterns during early brain development – “The Stack” Somatodendritic orientation determines tDCS-induced neuromodulation of…

A 19-Year-Old Adolescent with Probable Alzheimer’s Disease
Alzheimer’s disease (AD) primarily affects older adults. In this report, we present the case of a 19-year-old male with gradual memory decline for 2 years and World Health Organization-University of California Los Angeles Auditory Verbal Learning Test (WHO-UCLA AVLT) results also showing memory impairment. Positron emission tomography-magnetic resonance imaging with 18F fluorodeoxyglucose revealed atrophy of…

This changes everything…
I’ve had a handful of moments in my life when a piece of information provided a profound enough insight that it forced me to reconsider nearly everything. This video (and the study it came from) was one of those moments. Prior to this work, I was really struggling trying to get a handle on how…

“Weird” but (probably) true fax
So here we are in the beginning of the semester meaning new data is scant and I’m left resorting to shit posting. Enjoy or not.

Is the trend toward pre-term induction driving rates of developmental issues?
Lower gestational age is associated with lower cortical volume and cognitive and educational performance in adolescence Phase-Based Cortical Synchrony Is Affected by Prematurity Vulnerability of the Neonatal Connectome following Postnatal Stress Brain volumes and white matter microstructure in 8- to 10-year-old children born with fetal growth restriction Effects of gestational age on brain volume and…

Informed Consent of Behavior
It is impossible to have informed consent over our own behavior if we do not understand the mechanics of it. We can talk about ethics ad infinitum, but without an understanding of how and why behavior is formed, discussions about ethics are ultimately as useful as ethics based policies are in practice. Falling back to…

According to the model – Deja Vu/Jamais Vu
Deja Vu is the sensation that an experience is familiar despite it being novel. Jamais Vu is the sensation that an experience is unfamiliar despite prior experience. Both of these experiences are common around “puberty”, “psychotic episodes”, and in “dementia”. Under the model, these are physiological artifacts of a “bad” dorsal/ventral map bind. We should…

Birds, Snakes, and Airplanes… The end of internal privacy
Sparked by – Fake Restaurant Promotion Helps Nab Suspect In 36-Year-Old Florida Cold Case Murder This concept just absolutely floored me, the idea of collecting DNA from everyone, legally, and without their knowledge or consent, is as simple as running a free food promotion. Maybe the new title for handing out samples at Costco could…

Question: Has neuroscience (outside of drug research for specific applications and arguably some physical insult treatments) had any significant impact on… anything?
Maybe a better way to phrase this is if neuroscience is actually advancing anything in terms of real world effect? I keep looking at dementia work and it’s just depressing, all this effort into understanding and it seems like hardly anything has reached down to the level of improving/changing day to day lives. The “mental…
