We do not “induce” changes to living cells, living cells respond to external conditions.
Adding a chemical or stimulation doesn’t “make the cells change”, it is the cells themselves which already have the programming to change when it receives that stimuli which change.
Genetic diversity provides a distinct set of responses available to cells, even the same “species” responds to stimuli in divergent ways.
Living cells do not respond to stimuli they don’t have the programming to process.
This is the set of mechanics which makes “evolution” work.
Cells/organisms do not “evolve” toward a state, they either have a trait which allows propagation in a particular environment or they don’t. As Chucky D wrote, it’s survival of the fit enough, and that axiom has carried into modern understandings.
The uniqueness of you is exactly the point of life, it is the driving mechanic behind the propagation and proliferation of life.
We can modify our responses to stimuli, but the stimuli themselves provide an effect on us as disparate as our programming allows.
